Cliff Hendler is one of Canada’s most experienced commercial mediators. For more than 36 years, he has been entrusted with thousands of disputes, including some of the most complex, high-stakes, and sensitive matters in Canada.
Cliff is routinely retained in disputes involving professional negligence and malpractice, product liability, aviation losses, class actions, mass torts, institutional abuse, and complex commercial mediations.
A pioneer in Canadian mediation for civil disputes, Cliff founded and served as President of DRS Dispute Resolution Services LP from 1990 to 2010, establishing one of Canada’s first full-service alternative dispute resolution firms.
In 1996, he co-founded the International Academy of Mediators, an organization of more than 200 experienced commercial mediators from around the world dedicated to advancing best practices and mentoring the next generation of mediators. He has lectured extensively across North America and Europe and has been instrumental in the development of mediation advocacy education.
Cliff co-managed the development of the American Bar Association’s National Institute on Mediation Advocacy Program, and developed the Canadian Mediation Advocacy Competition and its international successor. In 2006, he contributed to the development of the ICC International Mediation Competition, now the world’s largest law-student mediation competition.
