THE PRACTICE

Both sides of the table.

Susannah Margison mediates complex civil disputes and is routinely retained in medical, hospital and nursing malpractice, elder and long-term care, professional negligence and institutional liability claims. Her practice centres on matters where legal risk meets something harder to value: a professional identity, an institution's standing, or consequences that will outlast the file.

She knows these files from the inside. Before becoming a full-time mediator, she spent more than a decade as a trial lawyer, principally in private practice, acting for plaintiffs and defendants alike. She understands how claims are built, assessed and defended, and what each party must answer for once the matter closes.

Trained in health sciences before law, and with experience working in healthcare and public health settings, she understands the clinical and institutional questions in these files as well as the legal ones.

PRACTICE AREAS

IN THE ROOM

Compassion, and a clear view of the decision.

Having tried cases for plaintiffs and defendants, Susannah understands how each side assesses risk, and she can test a position from either side of the table credibly. She comes to every matter curious rather than certain, letting the parties show her what truly stands between them. She brings compassion to the room without losing sight of the decision the parties have come to make: whether the certainty of a settlement serves them better than the risk of trial.

Trusted by plaintiffs and defendants alike, and chosen again by the counsel who represent them.
